The first day of our Autumn Auction Series opened with much active bidding for the sale of the Joe Youssefi collection of Persia. In these unprecedented COVID times, the majority of the action was through the more than 50 bidders connected online through our bespoke live bidding system.
The auction started with a well covered group of early postal history with much buoyant participation in particular lot 10001 (estimate €300, price realised €4’320). This section was followed by an even more popular group of Indian Offices in Persia with much competition and highlights including lots 10073 (estimate €500, price realised €2’040), 10075 (estimate €700, price realised €3’840) and 10087 (estimate €300, price realised €2’640).
Finally after than more than 100 lots had passed we came to the auction highlight which was Joe Youssefi’s Lion collection. In recent years this market had been somewhat on the weak side. However not yesterday, to my surprise there was both spirited and constant bidding throughout with a high percentage of lots finding buyers. In particular the essays were in high demand with lots 10123, 10125 (estimate €600, price realised €4’560) and 10137 all fetching seven times the estimate. Other results of note included 10155 (Estimate 10’000, Price realised 13’200 Euros) and 10202. The rest of the sale continued in the same vain, highlighted by lot 10382 (estimate €4’000, price realised €9’000) and 10523 (estimate €800, price realised €5’760).
We would like to thank all the participants for the involvement, both buyer and underbidders.
Please note that part 3 of Joe Youssefi collection will be offered in Spring 2021 (dates to be announced)
