Autumn Specialised Auctions

This autumn, David Feldman presents six outstanding specialised auctions formed by distinguished collectors. The series includes Part II of the Tomasini Collections of Classic Great Britain and Sicily; Part I of the Tay Collection of the Netherlands East Indies; the Dennis Jaffé Collection of the Commonwealth of Australia, 1904–1990; the “Philokypros” Collection of Cyprus Postal History; a further important collection of Netherlands East Indies pre-stamp postal history, and a specialised offering of Switzerland.
Together, these collections cover an exceptional range of classic philately and postal history, from major rarities and important multiples to long-established studies assembled over many years. Each sale reflects the knowledge, dedication and individual collecting vision of its owner, offering collectors a rare opportunity to acquire material of quality, depth and distinguished provenance.

We are pleased to present the Grand Prix collection of Netherlands East Indies, formed over more than three decades by the distinguished philatelist Tay Peng Hian, RDP, FRPSL, former President of the FIP and FIAP.
Widely regarded as the most exceptional collection ever formed of the first three stamp issues of the Dutch colony, it includes major rarities from the imperforated first issue of 1864, the scarce perforated issue of 1868 and the third issue of 1870. An estimated 80% of the great rarities of classic Netherlands Indies philately are housed in the collection, including outstanding town cancellations from Sambas, Benkoelen and Banda.
The collection has received some of the highest honours in international philately, including the FIP Grand Prix International in Seoul, the FIP Grand Prix d’Honneur in Luoyang and the World Stamp Championship in Bangkok. Following the publication of Mr Tay’s book in 2024, collectors now have the opportunity to acquire material with the prestigious “Ex Tay Collection” provenance.
Aditionally we will offer part I of another important NEI collection of pre-stamp mail whose highlights include the extremely sought VOC hs; large ovals, including unique “ZEEBRIEF” hs, and British Occupation hs in superb condition.

The “Philokypros” Collection of Cyprus Postal History is an extraordinary and wide-ranging collection celebrating the rich postal and historical heritage of Cyprus. It offers collectors, historians, museums and cultural institutions a unique opportunity to acquire material of exceptional rarity and historical importance. Spanning centuries of Cypriot postal communications and administration, the collection provides a fascinating insight into the island’s complex and multicultural history. The Collection includes early maps, Venetian Mail, Austrian Offices, Great Britain used in Cyprus, material from the five reigns with Victoria, Edward, George V and VI and Elizabeth II. Extensive ranges of WWI and WWII censored mail, village postmarks, tax and other instructional markings, Jewish Internment Camps and much more.

The sale of the first part of the Tomasini Collections of Classic Great Britain and Sicily, offered on 26 March 2026, saw almost every lot find a new home, confirming our proven ability to handle the greatest collections and successfully bring them to today’s market environment, even in segments that have experienced subdued conditions in recent times.
Both collections, distinguished by their rigorous construction and scholarly approach, demonstrate that rarity, condition and provenance remain decisive factors in defining results.
The second part of the Tomasini Collections, will present a further selection of material of comparable calibre. Continuing the same rigorous standards of formation, it will include numerous outstanding pieces combining rarity, condition, and distinguished provenance. We invite collectors to take part in this forthcoming auction and to consider the many opportunities it will offer to acquire material of notable quality.

The remarkable Dennis Jaffé collection of Australia spans the Commonwealth of Australia period. The outstanding part of the collection are the wide range of booklets, which are so rarely offered especially with such a number of the rare examples that this collection holds. Also worthy of note are the essays produced between 1901-12 for the first issues of Australia, several of which are ex Arthur Gray. The stamp collection that follows is very much focused on plate blocks, imprint blocks, modern errors and a comprehensive offering of listed plate flaws and varieties, from the Kangaroo issues through to QEII, along with a selection of proofs throughout.

To complete our offering, we will finish with a specialised auction of Switzerland, comprising approximately 500 selected lots. From Cantonals and Rayons to Sitting Helvetias and modern issues, together with a varied selection of collections, the sale will span the full breadth of Swiss philately and offer material for collectors at every level.

Our Winter Auction Series, taking place from 6 to 10 December, is already in preparation. The sales will bring together important individual rarities, specialised collections and substantial holdings from across the philatelic world and will include dedicated offerings of Persia and Ireland (the latter having developed into one of our strongest and most active markets) as well as our traditional auctions of France & French Colonies, Great Britain & British Empire, Europe & Overseas (including the Andy Taylor Collection of Austria Newspaper Stamps) and All World Collections.
Consignments are currently welcome and collectors considering selling are invited to contact our team. Backed by our international clientele, global marketing reach and six decades of auction experience, we will ensure that each consignment is carefully presented to achieve the strongest possible result.
