Two Pence, October 1840 Trials for the New Design
Two proof pulls in black on proof paper on card, both with the value blocked out, the first with the white line below “postage”, the second with white lines at top and foot. Fine and exceptional. A highly important item showing the development of the 1841 Two Pence stamp. S.G. Spec. DP42.

1841 Two Pence Blue, Plate 3, a superb vertical mint block of nine with full original gum, an extremely fresh block showing luxuriant colour, undoubtedly one of the finest multiples of this plate.

1841 Two Pence Blue, Plate 4, a corner marginal block of four, lettered AA-BB in a pale blue showing the plate number and part marginal inscription, with full sheet margins and close to large margins on other sides, full original gum and lightly mounted. In astonishingly fine condition, almost Post Office fresh and probably the finest plate number two pence block in existence. A highly important exhibition centrepiece.

1840 Mulready to Southampton dated 8/4/43, additionally franked with a superb imperf 1841 1d. red plate 33 on blued paper, lettered IE, neatly tied by a fine strike of the number “10” in black Maltese cross, the Mulready uncancelled contrary to regulations, a major exhibition show piece.
