1840 2d. blue plate 1. A magnificent horizontal strip of 5 lettered PG-PK, with large balanced margins all round, tied to piece by fine strikes of a dull pinkish violet Maltese Cross; Very fine and a rare strip with these colour crosses. Ex Victoria collection in 1935

1840 2d. blue plate 1. A magnificent horizontal used strip of seven lettered FF-FL in deep full blue, enormous margins all round showing portions or traces of 9 adjoining stamps, each cancelled by a good strike of The Maltese Cross in an orange red shade; small and insignificant scissor cut in the vertical margin between FF-FG mentioned only for accuracy; a superb exhibition quality multiple of rich luxuriant colour, which has never been offered on the open market.

1840 2d. blue plate 1. A superb horizontal strip of four lettered LG-LJ used on entire dated April 18 1842, addressed to the Royal Observatory Cape of Good Hope, the strip showing  lovely fresh colour and large balanced margins all round, with each showing a fantastic strike of the black Maltese Cross, the front showing manuscript “4” in red and a fine strike of the “PAID SHIP LETTER” dated cancel also in red; A magnificent Exhibition quality cover not only for the GB collector but also for the collector of incoming mail to the Cape, exceedingly rare so fine and this being the first time it has been offered on the open market since it was offered in the famous “Wills” collection.

1840 2d. Blue plate 1. Six beautifully fresh singles lettered RL, MH, ?K, MJ, GK and GJ used on entire letter dated 31st Dec 1840 from Bristol to Malta via Falmouth ex the famous “Lady Louis” Correspondence, each stamp with superb large margins all round (RL and GK showing portions of the adjoining stamps at foot) and each cancelled by a rich and vibrant strike of the Orange Vermilion Maltese Cross with matching Bristol D.S on reverse;  a magnificent show piece and from this famous correspondence, this being its first appearance on the open market for 20 years

1840 2d. Blue plate 1. A superb bisected example with large margins lettered D-? used on entire from Guilford to London dated “JY/28/40” the adhesive placed in the centre of the entire and cancelled by pen stroke, additionally showing “Imperfect stamp” and “2” in manuscript all in the same purple ink, the front additionally showing the red London Tombstone arrival for “29.7.40”an incredibly rare cover which is the earliest known bisect in existence, this being the first time it has ever been offered since it was first discovered by the current owner as part of an old time correspondence in 1994.
