Description
1864 Letter from Athens (Mar. 6/18, 1864) to Livorno (Apr. 1/12, 1864) via Messine franked at 224 lepta, written on red pencil, corresponding to a letter up to 20 grams transported by the French paquebots according to the convention of 1861 between Greece and Italy (“voie Française”).
Black handwritten “Postali Francesi” for “French Postal Boats” on le left-bottom corner and “2” on the left-top corner to indicate the double rate.
Red postmark “ΠΕΔ” or “ΠΛΙΡΩΜΕΝΟΝ ΕΞΟΤΕΡΙΚΟΝ ΔΗΚΕΩΜΑ” for “Paid to Foreign Destination”.
The stamps are from the consecutive Athens printings (1862/1867) and with good to large margins.
