Description
1864 Letter from Athens (Mar. 6/18, 1864) to Livorno (Apr. 1/12, 1864) via Messine franked at 224 lepta, written on red pencil, corresponding to a letter up to 20 grams transported by the French paquebots according to the convention of 1861 between Greece and Italy (« voie Française »).
Black handwritten « Postali Francesi » for « French Postal Boats » on le left-bottom corner and « 2 » on the left-top corner to indicate the double rate.
Red postmark “ΠΕΔ” or “ΠΛΙΡΩΜΕΝΟΝ ΕΞΟΤΕΡΙΚΟΝ ΔΗΚΕΩΜΑ” for “Paid to Foreign Destination ».
The stamps are from the consecutive Athens printings (1862/1867) and with good to large margins.
