Lot 11440 – 1872ca. 1d., 2d., 4d., 6d., 10d. and 1/- “set” of six matching imprint blocks of 12 plate proofs
Lot 11440 – 1872ca. 1d., 2d., 4d., 6d., 10d. and 1/- “set” of six matching imprint blocks of 12 plate proofs
1872ca. 1d. bistre, 2d. bright blue, 4d. rose, 6d. blue-green, 10d. maroon and 1/- orange “set” of six matching imprint blocks of 12 plate proofs from the foot of the sheet on thick glazed wove paper, overprinted “Cancelled” (type d7), the odd trivial bends and surface marks though a beautiful and most desirable series of blocks; very rare of which only one sheet of each value existed; ex “Adamastor” and “Port Louis”.
Note: The 3d. 9d and 5/- values never existed in this form and the absence of the imprint from the 10d. block reflects the later manufacture of the plate for that value.
