Lot 11440 – 1872ca. 1d., 2d., 4d., 6d., 10d. and 1/- « set » of six matching imprint blocks of 12 plate proofs

1872ca. 1d. bistre, 2d. bright blue, 4d. rose, 6d. blue-green, 10d. maroon and 1/- orange « set » of six matching imprint blocks of 12 plate proofs from the foot of the sheet on thick glazed wove paper, overprinted « Cancelled » (type d7), the odd trivial bends and surface marks though a beautiful and most desirable series of blocks; very rare of which only one sheet of each value existed; ex « Adamastor » and « Port Louis ».

Note: The 3d. 9d and 5/- values never existed in this form and the absence of the imprint from the 10d. block reflects the later manufacture of the plate for that value.
