1826 (July 1). Registered entire letter from Sao Paulo to Rio de Janeiro, via overland mail with double rate in manuscript “Pg 250” charged on dispatch, “Segura” framed within two “#” and denoting registration, boxed “S. Paulo” hs in brown, with reverse showing annotated “Pg. o Pte do Correio” and accompanying signature of the post office employee “Abreu”; slight tropical imperfections not detracting from the attractive appearance. Pre-philatelic registered mail is very rare.
