Lot 30280 – 1850s incoming wrapper from Oldenburg with rare oval “New York Post Office ADVERTISED” handstamp
1850s incoming wrapper from Oldenburg, GE with 1854 1/30th Mi.2 type III (1854) cancelled with FRANCO as part-payment for Bremen “PAID TO BREMEN” plus tax notice for New York 10c (1c for Bremen + 4c for sea transport + 5c for New York). Cover left Oldenburg 23/11, Bremen 24/11 and arrived in New York on Sylvester. Rare oval “NEW YORK POST OFFICE ADVERTISED” cachet. The cover with some ageing, as to be expected on this long journey, but an interesting transatlantic cover from the 1850s for the postal history specialist.
