Lot 41174 – Canton 1833 (Oct. 30), entire letter to William Leslie in Scotland with endorsement “Per H.C.S. Waterloo”
Canton 1838 (June 3), entire letter to William Leslie in Old Rain, Aberdeenshire, Scotland with manuscript endorsement “Per Tapley from China”; on reverse are superb strike of framed INDIA LETTER PENZANCE (Robertson IN7) and datemark NOV 27 1838. Two pages of correspondence that mention shipping mail by the overland mail via Egypt and India, also mention of Admiral Maitland to whom Napoleon surrendered in July 1815. A fascinating letter from before the Opium Wars that began the following year.
