1883-94 Requisition sheet, The Unique sheet from the Colonial Post Master, general Post Office in Mauritius, Dated “14th Sep 1882”, headed “Requisition for the undermentioned Postage Stamps required for use of this department” bearing examples of the 1879-80 2c. venetian red, 4c. Orange, 17c. rose (changed in manuscript to 16c.) and 25c. olive-yellow, with details of quantities required; very rare. Ex De La Rue Archives.
The Manuscript alteration on the 17c. confirms that the 17c. was to be replaced by a 16c. adhesive. As it Transpired, the new 16c. adhesive in rose was never supplied, which resulted in the local provisional surcharges of February and July 1883. In the De La Rue archives there is a record of a submission on 24th January 1883 of a design for a 16c. value, which was not approved, the 16c. adhesive printed in chestnut was eventually placed on sale in 1885.
