Description

1840 (Aug 30) entire letter (refolded and slightly cut down) to Cranbrook in Maidstone, bearing a superb block of eight 1840 1d intense black pl.2 FI-GL, good to large margins all round (GI just clipped at left), neatly cancelled by good strikes of rich crimson red Maltese crosses; small internal tear between GJ and GK and some creasing though not detracting from the stunning appearance, a major rarity of GB Philately being one of two blocks of eight from this plate known on cover.
