Description
1840 1d black pl.1b FI (showing double letter “F”), fine to large margins, on 1841 (Mar 12) wrapper sent from Scotland to Lubeck, Germany, with stamp tied by black Maltese Cross and London “tombstone” datestamp, backstamped Haddington (East Lothian) with Edinburgh and London transits, endorsed “private ship” with London “Paid Ship Letter” crown ds, ms “1/4” and “4” rates, reverse with Hamburg arrival, missing top backflap, a very rare usage of a Penny Black sent abroad.
