Description
1870 Part envelope from Ancona (Dec. 2/14, 1870) to Argostoli (Ded. 7/22, 1870) via Brindisi (Dec. 3/15, 1870) and Kerkyra insufficiently franked with a blue pair of Victor Emmanuel of 20 centisimi but taxed at the arrival with a 20 lepta of special printings (1870). Black postmark “FRANCOBOLLO INSUFFICIENTE” for “Insufficiently Paid”. The tax was by convention 22 lepta, as written on blue pencil on the letter but only one stamp of 20 lepta has been apposed which was quite frequent. The 20 lepta is from the 1870 special printings with good to large margins. Signed Calves.
