Description

1860 envelope from Cape Town to France with 1d brick red and 6d deep rose lilac tied by small triangular obliterator, mixed margins, paying the 7d per ¼oz rate to France, Calais transit and La Flèche arrival, cover with cosmetic reparations, a very rare surviving example of this obsolete foreign rate; ex R. Johnson.

Note: This little seen rate/destination was in force from 1858-1860 which was changed to 8d per ¼ oz from 13th August 1860.
