Description
The Death of the Postal System Zimbabwean Inflation 1980-2009The Robert Hisey five-frame gold medal-winning collection is beautifully mounted and expertly written up on 40 double pages, plus eighteen additional pages, with the collector’s knowledge reflected throughout in much of the unique information about this very volatile inflation period in the history of Zimbabwe.
The collection aims to trace the inflation/hyperinflation of Zimbabwe postal rates that destroyed the Postal System. From Mugabe’s accession to power in 1980 to the abandonment of Zimbabwe’s currency in April 2009 the collection covers the Rate Steps for this period, showing the various rate classes, such as Surface, Air, Air Lift, Due, Registered etc. It’s important to note that ten rate steps towards the end are not shown as no examples exist.
The five frames are ordered chronologically, by the four successive Zimbabwe £ periods, and then by rate steps. The rates on each cover are expressed in both the currency of the moment and the original Zimbabwe $. The rarity of the covers are asymptomatic with the inflation, hence from plentiful at the beginning to difficult in the middle, to extremely rare to impossible at the end.
A truly wonderful assembly for those fascinated by the history of Rhodesia and later Zimbabwe, and an excellent basis for study and expansion (100’s).
