1883 (24 Dec) Letter from Gibraltar to the Empress of Russia in St Petersburg. Envelope franked with 1d lilac SG 172, 2 1/2d blue plate 23 SG 157, 4d brown plate 18 SG 160, stamps tied by indistinct duplex Gibraltar A 26. Reverse shows Russian arrival pms and part of backflap missing. A remarkable and attractive letter to the Empress of Russia, a very unusual destination.
