1867 (18.5) Folded stampless entire Alexandria to Vienna, Austria, bearing “COL VAPORE/D’ALESSANDRIA” 2-line handstamp, stamped 20 in blue to pay 10 kreuzer seapost rate, 5 kreuzer inland and 5 kreuzer postage due. The 20 Kreuzer was paid on arrival in Trieste, some minor splitting along folds, a fine & scarce usage
Note: Although stamps had already been used by the Austrian post office in Alexandria since 9.9.1863, one could still receive unfranked letters without an additional postage until 15.10.1866; 5 Kreuzer were charged for such letter
