Description
1832 stampless envelope countersigned on front by Sir Thomas Hardy (Nelson’s flag captain at Trafalgar and of “kiss me Hardy” fame, who had risen to First Sea Lord at this point) addressed to Captain Jose Joaquim Alves, a renowned Brazilian Naval Officer, bearing two-line black ‘Charing Cross/ 2py Paid’ overstriking red oval datestamp, reverse endorsed “Chief-Clerk of Admiralty” and, missing backflap of scant importance. A fine signature from an iconic figure in British maritime history.
