Description

1862-63 Baden 3 Kreuzer red postal stationery envelope, small format with additional franking of Switzerland Sitting Helvetia 10 Rp. blue, both the stamp and the Baden stationery with Swiss cds “RIEHEN 15 NOV 64” (Canton of Basel-Stadt), sent to Lienheim, Amt Waldshut in Baden, without any additional postal fee charged. According to the postal rates of 1855, this cover to Waldshut/Baden would have cost 20 Rappen (= 6 kr.). In this case, the mixed franking was fully accepted (10 Rp. = 3 Kr. Swiss share and 3 Kreuzer German share). A unique Baden-Switzerland mixed franking. Signed Seeger BPP and certificate Brettl BPP “Very rare two-country franking”.
