Description
1861 “Woodblock” 1d. vermilion on laid paper, a severed rejoined pair
with margins virtually all round (just touched on one side), fresh
colour and with small part original gum and rare thus, small staining on
one but still a remarkable item with an equally remarkable history.
Intact when it formed part of D’Arcy Hall collection, it was stolen and
subsequently severed, the original Royal Certs were also lost, now with
B.P.A. Cert (1982) Ex Hind (1934, sale 4, lot 124), Stevenson (1950, lot 175), D’Arcy Hall (1962, lot 119) and Sir Maxwell Joseph (1982, lot 655) Catalogue ref: SG S.G.13
