Antrim: The Post Office in Antrim was first opened in 1658, the Antrim token is dated 1671 and shows on the obverse an ornamental knot and the name Matthew, Bethell, and on the reverse POST MSTR.IN ANTRIM/M.B.ID., plus 1722 (26.1) Folded entire from Antrim to London showing on reverse clear, crisp strike of the linear ANTRIM and abbreviated CnTRY alongside, extremely fine and rare postal related penny token
Note: Six postmasters in Ireland are known to have used one penny tokens to advertise their business. The six were Robert Warner of Ballinasloe, Richard Harrison of Belturbet, Thomas Moore of Carlow, Ralph Bullock of Maynooth, Abraham Vaughan of Youghal and Matthew Bethell of Antrim.
