Description

On the 4th June 1909 the Post Office replied, rejecting the existing design in favour of an entirely new composition, on the 19th August De La Rue submitted three essays.

1909 (19th August) 2d. slate purple (type 1) Rejected design with rectangular frame, stamp sized essay on glazed card; some rubbing though not detracting from the very fine appearance of this exceedingly rare essay. Cat from £35,000.
