Lot 10222 – The Monocolour Issues
The Monocolour Issues
On 19th March 1909 colour trials in Monocolour, but in the existing bi-colour design, were submitted along with Specimens of the 1 1/2d. and 4d. values. Though as with the 1 1/2d. value, despite considerable progress, the issue was discontinued.
The colour trials were printed on white or yellow watermarked paper or on unwatermarked tinted papers. All colour trials of this later period were separated from the sheet or document by scissor cut (particularly significant to this issue), which occasionally results in minor irregularities.
1909 (19th March) 2d. Tyrian plum, perforated colour trial on white crown watermark paper, perf. 14, lovely fresh colour; very rare. Cat. from £9,000. Ex Harold Fisher (Phillips 1985).
Additional scans and images are being uploaded on a continuous basis, and the complete set of illustrations for all lots will be available by 1 June 2026.
