1901 2/6d. cut down die proof in black on glazed card (68 x 51mm.) Ex De La Rue archives with solid dark ground in front of head Lettered “A” and annotated “Cancelled” in manuscript; a rare and important proof. Cat. £5500.

On the 22nd. October 1901, the Inland Revenue reported that they had, had a suggestion from De La Rue regarding the 2/6d. design, namely that he solid background in front of the head was too prominent As proof A; and that it should be vignetted as in B. This could be effected by using lines similar to those at the back of the head. The suggestion met with approval.
