The Two Pence Half Penny Value
On 10th July 1901. A series of essays lettered B-H were submitted to the Post office. Essay B was recommended , and approved on the 19th July.
1901 (10 Jul) 2 1/2d. stamp size paste up essay with bromide frame and die proof head affixed to thick card (92 x115mm.) lettered “G” at upper right, very rare. Cat. £8500.
There were probably four sets of essays prepared.
1. Unlettered (A) plus B-H inscribed only with dates. This would appear to be the primary working set.
2. (A) plus B-H, all dated and inscribed “Dupl” probably prepared at the same time as set 1 ex De La Rue Archives.
3. Set in the Royal Collection.
4. De La Rue Photo replicas.
