Description
1884 (Jul 28) envelope from Nassau to Inagua, with 1882 1d perf.12 tied by “A05” barred oval, addressed to Stephen Dillet (son of the former postmaster at Nassau) on board the lighthouse tender Richmond to the care of the Postmaster of Inagua, and returned to Nassau as the Richmond had already left, with reverse showing Nassau New Providence despatch, Bahamas AU 9 code “A” arrival, and a further Nassau AU 28 cds on return, some foxing, a rare cover with only five or six inter-island covers franked with a 1d recorded, and this being the earliest recorded example of the Bahamas datestamp used on an out island, an important item of Bahamas postal history.
