Description

1858-61, 40c red, three margined example used on 1864 delightful blue advertising envelope of the famous early stamp dealer J. B. MOENS “TIMBRES-POSTE POUR COLLECTION, J.B.MOENS GALERIE BORTIER R. DE LA MADELEINE” with Locomotive and Sailing Ship at top, mailed from Brussels to C. W. Viner (the English publisher of Moens) in Maida Vale, London cancelled by two strikes of ’24’ numeral obliterator with Brussels cds (Sept 12) at left. Framed ‘PD’ in black and London/paid arrival cds in red (Sept 13) on front. ‘Angleterre Par Ouest 2’ datestamp of transit on reverse. Envelope with small tears at right of no significance. A lovely cover. Only five Moens envelopes franked with the Medallion issue are known.
