1840 (6 May) stampless cover from Tonbridge Wells to London, the front handstamped “PAID 1d. ” of the uniform penny post in red, and showing London tombstone “B PAID/7 MY 7/1840”; scarce with very few examples known on this date (being the first official date of the new 1d. black).
