Description

Hindenburg Crash Cover. 1937 postcard endorsed “Mit Luftschiff Hindenburg nach USA”, addressed to Germany and franked with German Reich 5pf airmail and block of five 12pf, prepared as mail for the return trip of the Hindenburg and recovered from the wreckage of the airship from the first finding, put into the US postal system with stamps cancelled by New York paquebot duplex and “O” cancels, then transported to Europe by ship and handed over to the Reichspost in Frankfurt, forwarded to Böhringen with accompanying letter explaining what happened to the card, fine and rare; cert. Reinhard Hofrichter (2005) (Mi. 63Da €4’000 plus €4’000 for the postal administration letter).
