France: 1853 – Montreal to Cognac via Cunard “Arabia”
Stampless entire from Montreal, 18 Oct 1853 (written at Quebec, 17 Oct), carried by Cunard “Arabia” via New York (19 Oct), Liverpool (29 Oct), London. Rated 2s. for the French border but subsequently deleted. Struck with red double-circle ETATS-UNIS.PAQ.BR.FT. 1 NOV 53 PARIS on the front and taxed 26 Decimes in error for a double letter sent via the USA and England under the British ship tariff of 1 Dec 1851 to Cognac, France.
