1852–57 Multiple Pence Stamps on Registered Cover – Kingston to New YorkWrapper from Kingston, 23 November 1857, bearing a right marginal 6d slate-grey in combination with bottom marginal pair and strip of four (repaired tears at left) of the 1/2d deep rose on the same paper, all tied by “18” numeral, and red REGISTERED handstamp to New York, USA.Exhibition showpiece.Note: Registration for mail between Canada and the USA was introduced on 1 October 1856, at a flat rate of 3d, irrespective of weight. Prepayment was required, either in stamps or cash. This cover demonstrates stamps used to pay registration, a practice seen on a small number of early examples.
