1852–57 10d Blue on Thin Wove – Re-Addressed Entire via Cunard “Persia”
10d blue on thin wove paper, outer frameline just cut into at lower left, otherwise fine to large margins with a portion of the adjoining stamp visible at top, tied by “44” numeral on entire with Smith Falls, 15 August 1857 circular datestamp. Routed via Brockville, Montreal, New York, carried on Cunard “Persia” via Liverpool, London to Brighton, then re-addressed with 1d red watermark Large Crown, white paper, perf. 14 pl.57 tied by Brighton sideways duplex to Richmond (Surrey).
This represents the 10d letter rate via New York or Boston to the United Kingdom valid from February 1856. Only one other re-addressed cover (front only) with Pence and Great Britain franking is recorded.
