1857 Official Stampless Registered Cover – L’ISLET “FREE” and “REGISTERED”

Cover to the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Toronto, bearing “3” handstamp crossed by two strikes of concentric circles, along with red “FREE” and “REGISTERED” handstamps. Dated with L’ISLET L.C., MY 28 1857 circular datestamp, sent via Quebec with backstamp and Toronto arrival. Very fine and attractive.

Note: Registration fees applied even on official free-mail; the “3” rating was canceled by the FREE handstamp while registration incurred a 1d charge within Canada.
