Lot 60336 – 1877 Handstamped in oil colours. The stamps in oil
1877 Handstamped in oil colours. A distinctive group from the 1877 handstamped issues printed in oil colours, produced from the original dies and plates, resulting in designs that are generally sharp and well-defined in principle. These printings are notable for their range of colour variants, including red to brownish-red, grey-black, slate blue, and olive green. Owing to the nature of the oil-based pigments, impressions are often irregular or partially smeared, particularly in the scarcer olive green shades, which frequently show less clarity. This characteristic softness and occasional smudging serve as a key distinction from the later, more clearly printed reprints. A specialized and collectible group, offering a range of shades and print characteristics. Condition as typical for the issue. (SG £1200+).
