Lot 60238 – 1872–1896 Specialized Collection with Sheets and Varieties

Collection: 1872–1896, An extensive and highly specialized collection of Bhopal issues (1872–1896), comprising 13+ complete sheets and several hundred stamps, with a strong emphasis on the early issues, including numerous spelling errors, retouches, and plate varieties.The sheets include both original printings and reprints, as well as retouched stones, providing exceptional material for the advanced student of this complex field. Rarely encountered in such quantity and scope, this collection represents an outstanding opportunity for detailed research and study. Highlights include: 1878 ¼ anna black (SG 5) “EEGAM” error, complete unused sheet of 20 (4 × 5), Plate I, showing frame lines extending throughout the sheet. Exhibits the characteristic tête-bêche arrangement of embossing (inverted code on right half). Minor faults in the top row, yet well above average and very scarce. ¼ anna green (SG 7, Type 4), with value in parentheses, perforated, complete unused sheet of 32 (4 × 8). Some faults, but overall in good condition. Rare as a complete sheet (SG £224+). SG 8 a–c (red), complete unused sheet of 32, displaying multiple errors including “EEGAM” (R1/3), “NWAB” (R3/2, R4/2), and “JAHN” (R5/2). Some toning, but of good overall appearance and rarity.
Provenance: Ex Benders A remarkable and seldom-offered assembly, combining major sheet material with important varieties—ideal for the specialist collector or exhibitor. Condition mixed, as to be expected with large sheet holdings, but overall fine to very fine. SG (£2000+)
