Lot 42520 – 1851-52, 1 cr. (2) on cover to Locarno, the only insufficiently franked cover so far recorded from Tuscany to Switzerland

1851-52 1cr light carmine on grey, two well margined examples on 23.11.1853 cover from Leghorn/Livorno to Locarno, both tied by “P.D.”, repeated at right, although these two strikes being cancelled by barred cancel as a result of the insufficient franking to pay the required 8 crazie for a destination within 75kms beyond the Austrian border, with “6 ins. affair.” ms in red and the “6” tying one of the stamps, arrival on reverse; the only insufficiently franked cover so far recorded from Tuscany to Switzerland.
