1852 Folded cover to Vera Cruz/MEXICO bearing on reverse ST:-THOMAS without date despatch cds, black PAID AT ST.THOMAS pmk on face, light VERA CRUZ arrival alongside.

Due to a fire at the Post Office on March 11 1855, the day and months digits had fallen out of the datestamp. Also due to the lack of red ink, the crowned postmark was applied in BLACK.

ONLY THREE black crowned circle handstamps are known. Important Danish West Indies Rarity
