Carnet de bal rectangulaire en or jaune, couverture à quatre panneaux en émail bleu à motifs dorés et ornements perlés. Panneaux inférieurs ornés d’une scène figurant une femme, un enfant, un vase, un arbre et une colonne ; panneaux supérieurs portant l’inscription “Souvenir d’Amitié”. Crayon en or surmonté d’un petit diamant, coulissant sur le côté ouvrant. Intérieur composé de quatre pages en vélin. Apparemment non marqué, non signé. Dimensions : env. 8 × 11 cm. Poids total : env. 268 g. Accessoire de sociabilité mondaine très prisé au XIXe siècle, le carnet de bal permettait aux danseuses de noter le nom de leurs partenaires successifs au fil de la soirée. Témoin raffiné de l’art de vivre et des codes de la correspondance sociale de l’époque, cet exemplaire se distingue par la qualité de son émaillage et la délicatesse de son exécution. Total weight: approx. 268 g. A cherished accessory of nineteenth-century high society, the dance card allowed a lady to note the names of her successive partners over the course of an evening ball.
