Artiste pionnière de l’avant-garde russe, Natalia Gontcharova fut une figure centrale du mouvement rayoniste et du développement de l’art moderne en Russie. Peintre, dessinatrice et décoratrice de théâtre, elle fut également une collaboratrice régulière des Ballets Russes de Serge Diaghilev, pour lesquels elle réalisa des décors et costumes remarquables. En 1939, elle fut naturalisée française sous le nom de Nathalie Gontcharoff, poursuivant sa carrière à Paris aux côtés de son compagnon, l’artiste Mikhaïl Larionov.

A pioneering figure of the Russian avant-garde, Natalia Gontcharova was a central contributor to the development of Rayonism and modern art in Russia. A painter, illustrator, and theatre designer, she was also a frequent collaborator with Serge Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes, for which she created numerous celebrated stage and costume designs. In 1939, she became a naturalised French citizen under the name Nathalie Gontcharoff and continued her artistic career in Paris alongside her lifelong companion, artist Mikhail Larionov.
