Cambodia, anonymous, c. 1643-1845, AV quarter tical, 3.67 g. (13 mm). Obverse: hamsa bird standing left. Reverse: blank uniface. Extremely rare.
Mitchiner (p. 392) notes that Gabriel Quiroga visiting the Cambodian court in 1595 recorded that “[t]his Kingdom has its own coinage in gold and silver on which is inscribed a cock…”. This present example appears to be stylistically similar with this earlier series.
