Shilaharas of Kolhapur (11-12th century), AV gadyana, 3.95 g. (13 mm). Obverse: anthropomorphic Garuda dancing facing with head turned left on a platform, holding a snake in left hand, circular line around. Reverse: architectural temple with supportive pillars and an object enshrined in the sanctum.
VF-EF details, struck with crude and rusty dies, possible edge filing on some areas of the edge.
An extremely rare coin of the Shilahara dynasty that ruled northern and southern Konkan, encompassing present-day Mumbai and southern Maharashtra. Nothing similar registered in Coinarchives; a similar coin was sold by Marudhar Arts, auction 43, lot 96 (estimate: 250000-300000 INR – 3500 usd)
