Gupta Empire, Samudragupta, c. 335-375, AV dinar, 7.55 g. (20 mm). Obverse: ‘javelin’ type; king wearing royal tunic standing, holding javelin with spearhead pointed down and sacrificing at altar, with garuda standard in left field, Brahmi Samudra below his left arm, circular Brahmi legend around. Reverse: goddess Lakshmi enthroned, holding diadem and cornucopia, Brahmi inscription at right, tamgha left, dotted border around. Kumar, TOTGE 2024, Class II, C4.
About EF, A well-struck and finely-detailed coin with underlying lustre, very fine detail on the king, slight weakness on the reverse, nice underlying lustre..
One of the first Gupta coins to be struck and showing much similarity with earlier Kushan coinage.
