Lot 10082 – Kushanas, Kanishka III, c. 267-270, Ardoksho, AV dinar, 7.69 g.
Kushanas, Kanishka III, c. 267-270, AV dinar, 7.69 g. (19 mm). Obverse: king standing facing, head left, sacrificing over altar and holding staff; trident to left, Brahmi letters or tamgha in right field, Bactrian inscription around and additional Brahmi letters in right field and between legs. Reverse: Ardoksho enthroned, facing, holding cornucopia and diadem, Bactrian inscription to right, tamgha left.
Fine.
We tentatively attribute this coin to Kanishka III, but these coins remain notoriously hard to identify (the website Coinindia.com notes “no coins have yet been definitively attributed to Kanishka III”). We rely on research of the collection conducted at the British Museum for identification of this coin.
