Great Britain, Edward VI, 1547-53, Second period, January 1549 – April 1550, half-sovereign, AV, 5.03 g. (29 mm). Obverse: uncrowned bust right, rosette stops, legend surrounds, SCVTUM FIDEI PROTEGET EVM. Reverse: crowned quartered garnished shield of arms, E and R flanking either side all within inner linear beaded circle. Legend reads EDWARD VI DG AGL FRA Z HIB REX,
Very fine, attractive portrait lightly struck, with a light reddish toning complimenting the intrinsic gold. An attractive example of the rare bare head portrait coin.
