1867–83 £5 Orange on Blued Paper, Fresh Mint, An Extremely Rare High Value
An exceptionally fine example of one of the rarest and most elusive high values. Lettered BN. This £5 Orange on blued paper is very fresh mint, retaining a large part of the original gum with only a small hinge remainder. A minuscule perf split at the top and a faint gum wrinkle are noted for accuracy, neither detracting from the outstanding condition and visual appeal.
A superb and highly desirable mint example, representing the pinnacle of classic British philately. Horsey states “likely to be 100-120 mint examples on blued paper worldwide. This estimate includes defective copies; the number of fine copies is much smaller“.
Stanley Gibbons Specialised Catalogue value: £60’000.
Expertise: Signed A. Diena, accompanied by certificates from the British Philatelic Association (1944 & 2025).
