Inscriptional single on cover
1840 1d Black, Plate 4 (GA) Left-Hand Marginal Stamp with Inscription “Back be careful no” on Cover
A very fresh and striking example of the 1d Black from Plate 4, on cover from London to Rickmansworth. The stamp retains its rare left-hand marginal inscription, an exceptional feature highly prized by collectors. It is neatly cancelled with a fine central red Maltese Cross, with the “T.P. Old Broad St” sub-office handstamp adjacent.
Condition is fine and most attractive, with fresh impression and clear margins, and a rarity factor heightened by its marginal inscription on cover, which is seldom encountered.
