1940 native envelope franked on the reverse with 1930-45 1p deep blue pair (good margins) and 1939-40 1a on 1r pair (trimmed perfs, right stamp showing variety comma for stop after “s”), lightly tied by “5 JA” cds (which was unchanged for years) and endorsed with true date of use “6.1.40”, scarce; cert. BPA (2007); ex Robson Lowe Sep 1979 lot 415 (S.G. 55 is £700 for used single).
