Description

1865-67 9d straw pl.5 KL line perf.14 abnormal, hinged to card inscribed by Sir Edward Denny Bacon and signed by King George V, reading “This 9d Plate 5. Gt. Britain stamp was taken from my collection and given to the National Philatelic war funds auction in September, 1915”.

A very rare example as only 36 examples of plate 5 were taken from the imperforate registration sheet and perforated for the 1884 Stamp Committee presentation books. This also being the only stamp that the King ever sold in his lifetime. A magnificent showpiece for the Surface Printed collector.

Expertise: Cert. RPS (1979)

Provenance: Royal Collection, Trivett, Hind and Shaida
